KnifeSavers

Description

The KnifeSavers Bleeding Control campaign provides the NTE with training on bleeding control techniques and how to safely provide emergency aid to stab victims.

Key Activity

The campaign is due to launch with a training event in Liverpool’s city centre, taking place at Fusion nightclub at 10am on Thursday 19th September. In total, 50 NTE business owners and their staff will be trained on bleeding control techniques – a course made up of four components. These are:

1) Introduction to the Knifesavers campaign
2) Core biological education on bleeding control
3) Distribution and logging of Bleeding Control Kits
4) Media and press interaction

After the training event has taken place, Bleeding Control Kits will be distributed throughout Liverpool city centre, where trained members of the Night Time Industry can use them to administer emergency aid to stab victims. These kits could mean the difference between a victim bleeding out and possibly losing their life or keeping a victim alive until an ambulance arrives.

Statistics released by the Home Office in March 2019 showed that knife crime on Merseyside is up by a massive 93%. According to the findings, there were 612 knife or blade-related offences in 2013, but in 2018 that number had reached a troubling 1,181.

While prevention is better than cure, it is vital that members of our NTI are trained in bleeding control techniques and can help to prevent unnecessary deaths when these incidents occur. That is why we are committed to getting as many venues on board to get involved, develop their skills and be prepared in the event of this type of incident.
