Description
The Control Zones campaign aims to bring an extra layer of security to the city’s busiest nightlife zones and help to prevent serious incidents.
Key Activity
Liverpool Nightlife CIC have proposed a number of control zones featuring weapon detection technology in the city centre – with Mathew Street as a priority – to help stem the flow of serious cases of knife crime. The Cavern Quarter, one of the city’s most famous areas, is not only known for its nightlife, but perhaps more notably for its knife crime, drug-dealing and aggressive begging. The proposal asks that security guards are placed at both ends of Mathew Street to help identify those who propose a threat to others.
The proposal could also involve a mobile triage area, pop-up police stations and safe havens for those concerned for their welfare, making the much-loved area safer for club-goers, venues and their staff.
Discussions are still being held between Liverpool City Council and the NTI’s key figures, and we hope we can begin to implement this campaign in this area and across the city to improve safety and reduce the crime rate.
